Our Awesome Bodies

Aching joints. Stiff knees. Cataracts and bunions, rumbling parts and gurgling bits. And for so many people, far, far worse. Yet, despite all that goes wrong, our bodies are truly awesome. Lightning-speed chemical connections, billions of blood cells playing dodgems to feed and water all our other cells – just part of the amazing complexity of what happens inside us every second to keep us alive and as well as possible.

Acknowledging the pain, disability and distress that injury and illness cause, this day will focus on the wonder of our human bodies, and God’s loving presence within our very DNA. Although vulnerable, we are an awesome work of art that the psalmist sings of in Ps 139:

‘It was you who formed my inward parts;

You knit me together in my mother’s womb.

I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.

Wonderful are your works;

that I know very well.’

This day will be led by Rev’d Catherine Wood SCL, a remedial massage therapist who also worked as a natural health practitioner in New Zealand.
